We say ‘Bon Voyage’ to John Bradshaw after 11 years as MD
Bas Belder, the finance director of P&O Ferrymasters, is to take over as the European freight management company’s new managing director after John Bradshaw officially stands down on June 1.
Belder, who has worked for Ferrymasters since 1986, inherits a business which has continued to grow its European Freight Management footprint since 2002 when it was demerged from P&O Trans European.
Under the leadership of John Bradshaw, who has been with the company for 33 years, P&O Ferrymasters has invested heavily in people and presence with strategic appointments to the board of directors and the opening of new offices across Europe,
Ferrymasters, which was last year acquired with the rest of the P&O brand by Dubai World, has also more than doubled its intermodal offering by investing in cost effective rail solutions that appeal to its customers’ concern for the environment.

Married with two children and living in the Netherlands, Belder, who has been finance director since 2000, said: “I am honoured to take on this role from John whose leadership has made the P&O Ferrymasters the success it is today. I speak for all the directors and the 1000 staff in wishing John every success for the future. The business will miss his contribution, but thanks to his investment in new blood in the boardroom, we have a strategic plan in place that will set our co-ordinates for even greater growth in the future.”
Adds John Bradshaw who is leaving to pursue other business interests: “I am leaving the business at the right time confident in the fact that it can only get better. We have successfully established our position in the market and moved customers' perception of us from a traditional unit load business to a full service Freight Management specialist. It has been a fantastic voyage of discovery and growth and I am confident that Bas and the team will build upon the achievements we have all made.
