Driver & Vehicle Safety Equipment
DRIVER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
Drivers are responsible for making full and proper use of all PPE and safety clothing provided. Drivers must always report any lost, damaged or out of date equipment to their Traffic Office for immediate replacement.
Standard Driver PPE:
- Hi-visibility jacket or waistcoat
- Goggles
- Gloves
- Safety hard hat
- Safety footwear, eg: boots
Additional driver protective equipment may be required if specified by a customer or on the Tremcard eg. flame retardant overalls.
All items of PPE issued must conform to the relevant European standard.
VEHICLE SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Fire Extinguishers:
- One portable fire extinguisher suitable to fight a cab or engine fire, minimum 2kg dry powder or other suitable extinguishing agent.
- One portable fire extinguisher to fight fire in load or tyre/brakes, minimum 6kg dry powder, or other suitable extinguishing agent.
Note: From 1st January 2008 total fire extinguisher capacity to be increased to 12kgs.
First Aid Box:
- Drivers are responsible for checking the contents of their first aid kit on a regular basis and for advising their Traffic Office of any replacement items required.
Warning Signs:
- Two self-standing warning signs (eg. reflective cones or triangles or flashing amber lights, which are independent from the electrical system of the vehicle)
Miscellaneous Equipment:
- Two suitably sized wheel chocks
- One non-metal hand held battery torch (for each member of the crew).
